My mother has been visiting for the last week and it was her last day today. Since I moved to New Westminster, I have wanted to try out Hart House in Burnaby, just a 10 minute drive from my place. I thought it would be perfect place to take my mom for brunch – so today we went.
We both started our meals with the Roasted Trumpet Mushroom Soup with Truffle Mascarpone Cream.
The Verdict of Trumpet Mushroom Soup?
I thought it was pretty good. Could have used a little more chives and truffle in the cream though – it was very faint. Like all pureed mushroom soups, it was very smooth, light and meaty at same time. There is something unique about the mushroom though – a richness I cannot pinpoint. I really enjoyed the texture of the soup and the taste of the mushroom. I have never noticed trumpet mushrooms in grocery stores, but will definitely try to look out for them in future to use in a soup myself.
BTW – Here’s a soup recipe that looks yummy with Trumpet Mushrooms that I may try and/or adjust in future with some Truffle Oil: Creamless Trumpet Royal Soup
